UGANDA SAFARI - 7 DAYS SAFARI IN UGANDA

This is a 7 day Uganda safari which starts and finishes in Entebbe featuring Uganda's top adventure safari activities; mountain gorilla tracking, game viewing and chimpanzee tracking in Uganda.
The safari takes you through to Kibale Forest National park, a tropical moist forest habituating thirteen species of primates which include the chimpanzee, the vervet monkey and the red colobus, black and white colobus monkeys among others. One of the most interesting safari activities that will be done in this forest includes tracking the noisy chimpanzee families, forest exploration, and tree identification, among others.  The Bigodi Wetland also found in this park is a haven to bird watchers and nature lovers. From Kibale the safari will take you to Queen Elizabeth national park, a savanna national park located at the foothills of the Rwenzori ranges. This park has the great African game which include tree climbing lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards, hippos among others. From Kyambura reserve, track the fast moving and elusive chimpanzees that live within the gorge. A hunt for the tree-climbing lions lounging on old fig trees, from the Ishasha region is also worthy taking during your safari in Queen Elizabeth National park. The climax of the safari will be the tracking of the endangered mountain gorillas from Bwindi Impenetrable national park. From Bwindi Gorilla Forest, a number of other activities can be done. These include nature walks, bird watching, primate viewing, butterfly viewing, community visits among others.

DETAILED SAFARI ITINERARY FOR THIS TRIP

Day 1: Kampala - Kibale Forest
After breakfast, you will depart Kampala for Kibale National Park. This scenic drive takes approximately 5-6 hours arriving in the afternoon.  You will stop over in Fort portal town for lunch before driving to Ndali Lodge/Primates Lodge/Rwenzori View Guest House where you will stay prior to your chimpanzee tracking tomorrow. After checking in, and if time allows, you will go for a guided walk in Bigodi Swamp to look for different bird species like the Shining Blue Kingfisher, Blue Throated Roller and other rare species and also find the fruiting trees, which attract Narina Trogon, Pied Hornbill, Yellow Spotted, Hairy Breasted and Yellow-Billed Barbets. Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale Forest
Report at the ranger station at Kibale Forest at 8:00am after breakfast and track the habituated chimps. Today, we spend the whole morning in the forest tracking the delightful apes that are more closely to humans than any other living creatures, returning to the lodge in time for lunch. The forest has a total 13 Primate species that includes the red Colobus monkey, the rare L’Hoest, blue monkey, grey mangabey, pottos, black faced vervet monkeys, baboons and also bush babies.  Later in the evening, you will have the opportunity of a guided walk through Bigodi Swamp. Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary which is managed by the Kibale Association for Rural and Environmental organization was formed in 1992 with the major aim of achieving social and economic development for local communities. This swamp is a home to approximately 137 bird species and it is also rich in vegetation, such as wild palms, figs and the dominant papyrus.

Day 3: Kibale Forest - Queen Elizabeth National Park.
After breakfast, you will depart Kibale and then head for Queen Elizabeth National Park which is approximately 3-4 hours drive having a game drive while entering the park arriving in the afternoon. Relax around the pool after lunch and later go for an early evening game drive. It is little wonder that Queen Elizabeth boasts one of the highest bio diversity ratings of any game park or reserve in the world, - from the open Savannah to Rain Forest, dense Papyrus Swamps and brooding Crater lakes to the vastness of Lake Edward. Almost 100 mammal species that include Lions, Leopard, Hippos, Buffaloes, Spotted Hyena, Elephants and the elusive Giant Forest Hog, there is an outstanding 606 bird species that include the Swallow Tailed Bee Eaters, Black Chested Eagle, the Martial Eagle, black-rumped buttonquail, Verreaux’s eagle owl and African skimmer among others.

The Primates include Chimps, Black and White Colobus Monkeys, Blue, Black Faced Red Colobus, and Red Tailed monkeys and Olive Baboons. The park is also gifted with reptiles including; the African Rock Python, Spitting Cobra, Gabon Ripper, Puff adder, Green Mamba, turtles and crocodiles, which are frequently sighted on the Mweya Peninsula.

Day 4: Chimpanzee Tracking and Launch Cruise
This morning we will leave for the 08.00am chimp trek in Kyambura Gorge. These delightful apes, more closely related to humans than to any other living creature, are tremendous fun to watch as they squabble and play in fruiting trees. We will return to the lodge for lunch and a chance to relax by the swimming pool.
               
In the afternoon a boat trip along the Kazinga Channel gives you the opportunity to view wildlife up close: hippo’s huff and spray mere feet away from the boat, buffalo linger in the shallows. The shores of the channel are also home to an array of birds including pink backed pelicans, pied and malachite kingfishers, saddle billed stork and many others. After this wonderful afternoon, a slow drive back to Lodge.

Day 5: Queen Elizabeth - Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. (Approx. 4 hours drive).
After breakfast, you will have a game drive in the Ishasha region of Queen Elizabeth National Par found in the southern part of the park, famed for its tree climbing lions and there after depart for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park which is approximately 3-5 hours drive. Best known for its Mountain Gorillas, the Montane Forest also attracted stunning birds of which, there are 23 of the 24 Albertine Rift endemics including the African Green Broadbill, Bar Tailed Trogon and other beautiful forest species. You may decide to relax in the afternoon or take a nature walk (at an extra cost of $10 P.P) which will lead you to the Munyaga Waterfall and a chance to see primates such as the Grey Cheeked Mangabey Blue Monkeys and others species. Day 6: Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
This morning you will have to wake up very early to get ready for the most exciting activity of Gorilla tracking. Report at the ranger station at 8:00am with your lunch boxes and all the necessary gear where the guides will take you to track the rare Mountain Gorilla, perhaps one of the most exciting wildlife experiences on earth. There are now only about 700 left in the world! The tracking may take between 2 and 6 hours but its well worth the effort. There are always park guides with you who interpret the flora and fauna and the lifestyle of the Gorillas. In the afternoon relax at the camp or if you have the energy, go for a guided village walk to visit the Local Batwa Community returning to the Camp in the evening.

Day 7: Drive back to Kampala
After a morning breakfast, we will depart from Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and return back to Kampala stopping en-route for lunch arriving in the early evening.
